A Evening with Michael Tolcher

Just a brief 30 for 30 interruption. This past Thursday, we hosted one of our favorite musicians, Michael Tolcher, to play a show at our home! We've been big fans of Michael's for about 8 years and have never been able to see him live (he's from Atlanta and why would he come to Albuquerque!?). So when he sent an email to his mailing list telling his fans that for his summer tour he's going to be playing in people's living rooms, I freaked out and emailed him back telling him he HAD to come to New Mexico and play at our house!! He responded, said OK and then the planning commenced (fyi, this all happened unbeknownst to Husband!). When I told Andrew that Michael Tolcher was coming to play a show in Albuquerque, in our house, he freaked out (naturally) and then we freaked out together as if we were two teenie-boppers going to see Bieber (I know exactly what you're imagining, and it happened it just like that)! We invited a bunch of friends, had some drinks and enjoyed an incredible night listening to Michael play his original songs. It was such a surreal experience and totally priceless...the best live music show ever (have a listen).

30 x 30 Challenge: 3 of 30

Should I confess that I've had these white linen pants FOREVER (I think it's obvious given I bought them at Wet Seal. Does that store still exist!?). As long as they are still white and they still fit, I will keep wearing them (between Memorial Day and Labor Day of course!).

30 x 30 Challenge: 2 of 30

Someone should have reminded me it's summer, I live in the desert, and that it probably isn't the best idea to wear dark-denim bell bottoms! Anyhow, these pictures remind me that at this time last year, my hair was pixie-short with bangs...it's come a long way (even though most days I'm convinced it isn't growing at all).

30 x 30 Challenge: 1 of 30

You can tell I'm an amateur, but it was a lot of fun finding nooks and corners of the garden to use as my backdrop. What you don't know is that it was 95 degrees and crazy windy (don't pretend like you didn't notice wind-torn hair!). Oh well, welcome to summer in New Mexico.

30 x 30 Challenge!!

June marks the month that I attempt a 30 for 30 Challenge, originally created by Kendi Everyday. The premise of the 30 for 30 Challenge is to take 30 items from your closet and make 30 outfits!! Since I apparently have nothing better to do (never mind analyzing my dissertation data or unpacking from my trip to San Diego in April!!), and because June is so conveniently a 30-day month, I figured I would embark on this improbable adventure!

Here are the rules I have set for myself:
          1. I have to wear one new outfit everyday for the month of June.
          2. I have to wear each item at least once.

And here are the 30 items I have chosen:

8 shirts

3 jackets

4 dresses

2 skirts

4 pants

3 accessories

6 pairs of shoes

 We'll see how this goes...

snow day!!

So, it's April 3rd and I know everyone back in San Diego is reveling  in the sunny and perfect 80-degree weather; and I was too...48 hours ago. Then all of a sudden BAM!! and everything is blanketed in white. Here's what it looks like in the backyard. You can tell garden prep has been underway and has been put on standby until further notice.

This is what it looks like around town this morning (FB friends, if some of these photos look familiar, thank you!)

Photo Challenge: 12 on 12

On the 12th day of March, I took 12 pictures of my day. Thank you Dear Lizzy for the photo challenge.

1. Up early for the Husband's first post-op appointment with his heart surgeon (I'll have to blog about this later). // 2. Waiting in the New Mexico Heart Institute waiting room, blinded by the lovely Spring sun. // 3. Sneaking in a picture of Husband's echocardiogram. //4. It's tax season, which means people dressed up in strange costumes holding signs on the side of the street (you know exactly what I'm talking about!). // 5. California Street...I can dream can't I?!. // 6. My beloved 2002 4Runner, Ronnie, has driven 111,111 miles and I just happened to glance at the odometer! (Now I need him to make it another 111,111 miles 'cause that's probably when I will finally have paid him off!). // 7. The first signs of Spring. // 8. This is what happens when the Husband gets hold of the camera! // 9. Exiting the bank (also courtesy of the Husband). // 10. a 12 pack for almost $12, hehe. // 11. We are renting out our home back in San Diego and my mother-in-law sent this picture. The house is still standing and the yard is green, so we're happy. // 12. Day one of my training for the 5k Color Run (Thank you to my BFF, Danielle, for the encouragement!)
